American Hand Therapy Foundation 2025 (ORTHOTICS) Educational Scholarship

PURPOSE:

Provide tuition cost to occupational therapists and physical therapists to a Hands On Orthotics fabrication course offered by The American Society of Hand Therapists. Therapists may attend in person or virtually. Preference will be given to those who work with underserved and vulnerable populations* and are ASHT members.

ELIGIBILITY:

Current occupational or physical therapy license through the completion date of the course.

FUNDING AMOUNT:

The award will cover Tuition / Registration for an American Society of Hand Therapists one day Hands on Orthotics Course (virtual or in-person).

APPLICATION WINDOW:

September 15, 2024 to November 15, 2024

*AHTF DEI Task Force:

Definition of Underserved Populations Underserved, marginalized and/or vulnerable populations are those that live in locations that lack adequate hand and upper extremity therapy specialists, or where there are physical, economic, and/or linguistic barriers to accessing hand and upper extremity therapy specialists.
This may include but is not limited to those individuals who:

  • Have health care problems that interfere with accessing or participating in therapy
  • Face financial, education, and/or housing hardships
  • Have limited understanding of the health care delivery system
  • Experience a language barrier
  • Live in a rural area
  • Rely on others for transportation
  • People of varied abilities
  • Are low income or unsheltered
  • Have mental health or substance use disorders
